Wow! Each dish has so many layer of flavors. I had the somusas, the spicy tofu, and coconut rice, and tried the chicken mango salad. The spicy tofu I requested mild and it was superb. The aromas and flavors were incredible. Will come again. Thank you Kathy for your suggestions.

Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and fantastic dishes. After dining for a business lunch meeting, returned for dinner a few weeks later. Excellent quality, everything is fresh and well prepared. Kathy is amazing! Exceptional service, was lucky enough to see her both visits.

This was recommended to us by a friend who loves in Berkeley. We were a part of 4 and We were told to wait 45-60 minutes to get a table after we drove 40 minutes from San Francisco to get there! It was very disappointing and we didn’t feel like exploring other restaurants after we arrived. We decided to wait. One table was reserved but the party didn’t show up. The table stayed available and they wouldn’t accept to give it to us. We were slightly lucky because they were able to seat us after 25 minutes of waiting. Most people who came with us left and didn’t want to wait that long. I should say that the busboy was very helpful and attentive and we appreciated his effort to find a table for us sooner than anticipated. We ordered two appetizers: the sesame tofu and the samosas. Both were very delicious. The tofu was surprisingly amazingly tasty. There was a sweet, sour, and slightly spicy favored. A winner indeed. I ordered the eggplant veggie dish which was very good but more oily than I would’ve liked. Other dishes we ordered were walnut shrimp, which was a sweet dish… not for me! The lamb dish was good and you can taste the meat, which means the spices weren’t overpowering. Yes I would go again and try other dishes. It was good overall

My friend made a reservation for outside on a cold Monday evening in December. Thankfully, the staff were able to find us a spot at the bar where it was much warmer. The bartender and our server were both delightful and took great care of us. They gave us great recommendations. We got the tea leaf salad - a must at any Burmese restaurant - and this one did not disappoint! We also ordered the chicken curry plus green beans and the mango chicken. I preferred the curry. All of the drinks sounded delicious, but neither of us drinks alcohol. Instead, my friend had a really nice hot ginger tea.

The standout dishes for me were the wok tossed chilli beef and the tea leaf salad. The fried calamaris were alright. One thing to note: the spice level is definitely hotter than expected. If you’re sensitive to heat, choose carefully and don’t hesitate to ask the servers for guidance—they’re friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to help steer you in the right direction. Prices are slightly on the pricey side, especially for a casual meal, but the quality of ingredients and the obvious care in preparation make it feel justified. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for anyone looking to explore bold, beautifully crafted Burmese cuisine.

In town for a work trip. Burma Superstar was highly recommended by a couple chef friends. It was AWESOME! We had a group of nine so we ordered family style. Tea leaf salad is a great starter. Curry noodle soup was so good, we ordered a second one. Spicy green beans and the eggplant dish were both amazing. Definitely make sure to get an order of the pork belly entree. Well done Burma Superstar!!

Amazing menu, delicious drinks including non-alcoholic cocktails! The food was delicious and a great introduction for me to Burmese food! Definitely want to come again. I came on a Monday for lunch and easily got a table, though the restaurant is relatively small and quickly filled up. I only tried lunch specials, one of which was a creamy catfish soup. I've never had anything like it yet I found it comforting and familiar. Would recommend if you like chowders.

The Oakland location has lots of available parking on the street in close proximity to the restaurant, especially if you go at 11:30 for lunch. You will get a strong whiff of all those seasonings cooking as you approach, in my book this always means good food will follow. They have a nice area for outside seating, but be careful of the bike lane, make sure you look before you cross into the restaurant or you might walk right into a 10 speed! The staff was very accommodating to my cousin with a wheelchair, they easily moved seating to ensure she had adequate space and was comfortable. I didn’t need to taste the food after this display of kindness, I knew I was in good culinary hands! The bathrooms are clean with a hint of cleaning product in the air, they are also spacious and pleasant even though they are unisex because I am not a fan of sharing restrooms with men. So yes, it is safe to use the bathroom here! The decor of the space has a family friendly feeling, with artwork that reminds you a trip to Burma should be on your travel bucket list! The menu has several selections but it’s not overwhelming, and accommodates all preferred diets. Vegetarians, and vegans this is a haven for you, lots of fruits and vegetables in these dishes, so please don’t shy away! I like restaurants that take a break between lunch and dinner, they usually do an extra bit of cleaning in my opinion. They close for lunch at 2:30 and open for dinner at 5pm during the week. This place gets packed, so plan to go early, and they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more! The food is eye appealing, you can taste the dish before you have your first bite, I love a beautifully displayed plate! If you find yourself in Oakland, I highly recommend grabbing a meal at Burma Superstar, have the Tea Leaf Salad, Egg Curry With Okra, and Coconut Rice. Sip a hot Fresh Ginger Honey Tea, while you enjoy the loving energy and artwork that make the setting as unique as the food! Unnerved Traveler
